CRCRC Day Three - Qualifying!

Man, track surface has changed. No slicks at all. People are mostly running BK Bars, Bar Codes and Taper Pins. Cav. and Tebo are flying in all the classes. Evans is looking good in the Losi camp too. Cody King's 4wd looks really good too.

CRCRC Day Two - Practice

CRCRC Day 2 - Practice

Ok, so I was having some set up issues today and couldn't get to alot of the blog stuff I wanted to. I apologize, but I had to try and get my cars up to speed first. Traction will be a big issue this year. Should be slicks to start and it is pretty warm in the bulding so I would think the pin will increase as the day goes on. I heard they will only water once in the morning only. Later on people were using ghost pins and by the end of the day JConcept Bar Codes and Losi BK Bars looked like the hot ticket. I took some quick pics and a couple of quick videos (I should have lots of time in between rounds to do some uploading tomorrow).

People looking fast:

Ryan Cavaleri -In all three classes looks fast. Particularly in 4wd though. Very dialed
Dustin Evans - Ripping in 2wd
Jared Tebo - Looking good in all three classes.
Al Horne - 2wd is looking really good
Cody King - 2wd and 4wd are dialed
Brent Theilke - Was laying down some fast times
Jesse Robbers - Looking good in 2wd and 4wd

I know I am missing some, but these people came to mind first.

*pic still coming
Jay'isms

- Jay is loving seeing the Pro's in action
- Jay did not re-build his diff
- Jay's cars are sitting dirty on the floor in our room right now, while Steve is working on his like a champ.
- Shame on Jay. HA!
- Jay could have picked up Jane (the 60 year old cashier at Walmart). I think she took a fancying to him and kept asking him questions about the race?!?!

Random Thoughts:

- I miss Jill (Mike's Garmin GPS's voice). I am going to toss my crappy i-way GPS out the window after it gave us a nice little tour of Columbus while trying to find a Walmart. I had to again buy the coveted US only baby formula for my kid and the GPS took us about 15 minutes out of the way.
- Steve and Jay (aka Harold and Kumar) tried to go to Whitecastle, but the service was so slow, we booked out of there for Wendy's instead
- There is a new Team feeling with Kyosho. Jared really has brought a new professonalism to the team over what I noticed from last year. All those guys (Tebo, King Pillars, Horne) are all very cool with us lesser types and are egar to have all the Kyosho's out here running well. Very cool.
- Kyosho's varying rear spring lengths caused a bit of confusion for us today.
- There are lots of new LiPo set ups out there for the "Big Three" without using weight plates.
- The track drying out is going to make it tough for set up during the day. It will be interesting to see how it affects lap times
- It is friggin cold out here still
- I think I saw Dakotah's mom. I am going to ask her for cupcakes tomorrow.
- The Shamwow makes for a very nice pit mat (some people actually noticed it..haha)
- Rolling Rock is plentiful here (I got a 12 pack at Walmart and had one at lunch today!)

CRCRC Midwest Champs - DAY 1

CRCRC Day One - It Begins!

WOW. What a trip already! CRAZY snow on the roads until Ohio pretty much. Lots of whiteouts and at least (and I am not exaggerating) 15 cars in various ditches along the way. Even a couple of 18 wheelers jackknifed. The trusty Subaru got the job done though and got us there in under 7 hours. We stumbled upon another Waffle House and have decided it is the official road trip breakfast joint to go to. Entering the tracks building we were surprised to a nice heated facility with some pit space (more pits in the next building over) and a really cool technical looking track. Tons of elevation and feature changes. NO triple this year thank god, but there are some pretty challenging sections. Tire choice is...well, not sure yet. Everyone was trying everything from Barcodes, Taper Pins, Switches, Slicks, "Ghost" pins, full pins. Hopefully we all get it figured out tomorrow. New Teammate Jared Tebo is one of the nicest guys I have met and him and Joe Pillars were going out of their way to help us lesser drivers get our set ups dialed. Lots of cool stuff here: new Orion products, Kyosho Truck, Hot Bodies 2wd, X6 squared. I'll keep the spy lens peeled for more goodies. Internet should be ok trackside too. I'll try and keep you all in the loop. Here are some quick pictures for now. People looking fast already: Tebo, Cavaleri Al Horne, some of the Losi guys (Schlick's maybe?). Gotta go fix my horrible 4wd set up and grind some tires.....

*pic coming*
Jay'isms

Jay is going to take over MIA Mike for this trip and he has already delivered!

- Jay forgot his 2wd car at home....
- Jay after seeing how pretty my waffle looked with the whipped cream smile just had to get his done up...biter.
- Jay actually put new shock oil in his shocks for this race!
- Jay might re-build his diff too...

Random Thoughts

- The drive was crazy. So many bone heads out there. Some guys were waaaaay deep into the ditches. Cars were spining out in front of us. They were everywhere!
- the new building is good. No crazy Torpedo heaters. It's warm and the track is sweet!
- No crazy triple. You may hear "watch the double" a little though.
- The tire war has begun....All kinds of tires are being tried in all shapes and sized and sauces. It is crazy.
- My 4wd that I was loving last race is ass here...haha...I stole Tebo's Lazer set up (ok he shared it with me) so hopefully that will solve that.
- Lots of talent here, Tessman, Phend, Tebo, King, Horne, Gardiner, Dunbar (remember him?), Robbers, Kinwald, Cavaleri, Theilke...the list goes on. This is a great race to attend.
- There will be at least 300 entries.
- This is supposed to be a rough end of town. Fred and Chet were told by a local that the restaurant they went to last night was somewhere they should really stay away from (making trigger pulling jestures)
- Lot's of racers staying in our hotel. Kyosho just down the hall, A/E in here somewhere too.
- Fred has lots of rum
- I have a super sized McD's coke with some of Fred rum....
- It is friggin COLD here....really cold....colder than Canadian cold.
- I was instructed by the wife to get more baby formula while I am in the USA again

Some Pics:

No better way to start the trip (especially at 4am) than a little Crue!

Goodbye Snow!

Hello Whiteouts...It looked like I was driving in hyper space...haha

One of the many (at least 15) bone heads in the ditch.

In Ohio...hooray?

Good 'Ol Waffle House...hey the sun is coming up!

Ummm, what is uo with US urinals? I could pee on the handle...

So pleasant are the Waffle House Staff...

This big redneck came strutting in and I laughed when I saw his bluetooth headset.

Jay is hot n ready to race!

Track pic..I lost my picture stitching program...sorry.

Lots of people practicing. A bit of a Gong Show out there so they started to control the practice later on in the day.

Next "Almost Live" Race Coverage: 22nd Annual CRCRC Midwest Championships!

Oh Baby!

That's right kiddies. Just like Eddie Grant says: It's time to rock down to electric avenue! No better way to start off the New Year than with this classic! 22 years this race has been running and it will pull in about 300 entries! Also, new teammate Jared Tebo will have his first big race with his Kyosho rides. They are promising me stable internet this year so look out for lots of updates: Pro car pics, video's of the action, driver interviews, in car camera video of the track (nobody better bite my idea!) plus whatever other nonsense I can think of! Giddie Up!
