2007 Canadian Hobby Show Off Road Championships

November 3rd & 4th

Toronto, Ontario, Canada

With the hard work of the dedicated Sid’s Raceway Crew, the prestigious Hobby Show Championships is back after a 10 year hiatus! Once known as one of the best attended and fun races of the year, everyone was excited to have this race put back on the schedule. With about 120 of some of the fastest racers from Ontario, Quebec and Western New York, the racing was going to be fast and tight!

In Saturday’s 4wd event, I got bumped off the TQ spot in the last round of qualifying. In the main it was pretty much a clean run in 2nd place from start to finish as I wasn’t hooked up quite as good as the 1st place finisher and just couldn’t make up the ground. So, 2nd place in the A Main for me with my Team Orion Vortex 6.5 BL motor and Team Orion Platinum 4800LiPo battery powered Kyosho Lazer ZX5.

In Sunday’s 2wd event, I had put a little more pressure on myself as it is my favorite class to race in. Timing issues made for a re-run of the first qualifier. A rough start had me sitting in 5th spot overall in a very tight group of drivers led by Losi Team Driver Keith Billanti from the USA. After the second round, even with lots of traffic problems, I had slotted into the 2nd place spot. Everyone stepped it up and there was a battle just to make one of the A Main slots! I buckled down in the third and final round of qualifying to lay down a scorching run to take the TQ spot by a solid 3 seconds, just missing the extra lap. The whole A Main and the top 3 in the B Main were all on the same 19 lap pace! In the main event, a third place first corner pile up allowed myself and second place check out a little. Second place flipped a few corners later and this left me to stretch it out. I built up a half track lead by mid race and then put it on cruise control to the finish and take the hotly contested 2wd victory with my Team Orion Vortex 10.5 BL motor and Team Orion Platinum 4800LiPo battery powered Kyosho RB5.
