CRCRC Midwest Champs - DAY 1

CRCRC Day One - It Begins!

WOW. What a trip already! CRAZY snow on the roads until Ohio pretty much. Lots of whiteouts and at least (and I am not exaggerating) 15 cars in various ditches along the way. Even a couple of 18 wheelers jackknifed. The trusty Subaru got the job done though and got us there in under 7 hours. We stumbled upon another Waffle House and have decided it is the official road trip breakfast joint to go to. Entering the tracks building we were surprised to a nice heated facility with some pit space (more pits in the next building over) and a really cool technical looking track. Tons of elevation and feature changes. NO triple this year thank god, but there are some pretty challenging sections. Tire choice is...well, not sure yet. Everyone was trying everything from Barcodes, Taper Pins, Switches, Slicks, "Ghost" pins, full pins. Hopefully we all get it figured out tomorrow. New Teammate Jared Tebo is one of the nicest guys I have met and him and Joe Pillars were going out of their way to help us lesser drivers get our set ups dialed. Lots of cool stuff here: new Orion products, Kyosho Truck, Hot Bodies 2wd, X6 squared. I'll keep the spy lens peeled for more goodies. Internet should be ok trackside too. I'll try and keep you all in the loop. Here are some quick pictures for now. People looking fast already: Tebo, Cavaleri Al Horne, some of the Losi guys (Schlick's maybe?). Gotta go fix my horrible 4wd set up and grind some tires.....

*pic coming*
Jay'isms

Jay is going to take over MIA Mike for this trip and he has already delivered!

- Jay forgot his 2wd car at home....
- Jay after seeing how pretty my waffle looked with the whipped cream smile just had to get his done up...biter.
- Jay actually put new shock oil in his shocks for this race!
- Jay might re-build his diff too...

Random Thoughts

- The drive was crazy. So many bone heads out there. Some guys were waaaaay deep into the ditches. Cars were spining out in front of us. They were everywhere!
- the new building is good. No crazy Torpedo heaters. It's warm and the track is sweet!
- No crazy triple. You may hear "watch the double" a little though.
- The tire war has begun....All kinds of tires are being tried in all shapes and sized and sauces. It is crazy.
- My 4wd that I was loving last race is ass here...haha...I stole Tebo's Lazer set up (ok he shared it with me) so hopefully that will solve that.
- Lots of talent here, Tessman, Phend, Tebo, King, Horne, Gardiner, Dunbar (remember him?), Robbers, Kinwald, Cavaleri, Theilke...the list goes on. This is a great race to attend.
- There will be at least 300 entries.
- This is supposed to be a rough end of town. Fred and Chet were told by a local that the restaurant they went to last night was somewhere they should really stay away from (making trigger pulling jestures)
- Lot's of racers staying in our hotel. Kyosho just down the hall, A/E in here somewhere too.
- Fred has lots of rum
- I have a super sized McD's coke with some of Fred rum....
- It is friggin COLD here....really cold....colder than Canadian cold.
- I was instructed by the wife to get more baby formula while I am in the USA again

Some Pics:

No better way to start the trip (especially at 4am) than a little Crue!

Goodbye Snow!

Hello Whiteouts...It looked like I was driving in hyper space...haha
